is it possible to learn a language in,just seven days is it possible to become,fluent will I just go crazy in a week we,found out this week because I learned,Spanish for seven days it's been a while,since I've been in school but I am no,stranger to studying so I'm gonna walk,you through the process of what my,Learning Journey was like and also the,techniques that I use also I should note,that I did study Spanish way back in,middle school but that was over 10 years,ago and I don't really remember much,from it I mostly studied from a textbook,in school which is pretty known to be,not a very effective way to learn a new,language so I was very interested to see,how some new found techniques could be,utilized to learn a language more,effectively first things first on day,one I found a list of the most common,vocab words used in Spanish we're,playing off the 80 20 principle it's,been known that a small number of high,frequency words or phrases can account,for a large percentage of the words used,in the language it's estimated that the,most common a thousand Awards in a given,language can account for 80,of the spoken and written vocab in that,language so if I just memorize this list,I should be able to effectively,communicate with just this vocab this,list includes things such as numbers the,days of the week daily household items,basically the same words are used over,and over again I wanted to get speaking,as quickly as possible this week I used,a platform called lingoda to help with,this lingoda is an online language,school where students take live lessons,in small groups of Maximum five students,led by a professional teacher they offer,classes for both complete beginner to,advanced level students and classes are,offered 24 7. I logged into my first,lesson it wasn't so good,no I was literally thrown right into the,hot water,can I see,um,you can tell I'm struggling and day,one's not the best start but needs to,say I was seeing some words from my,classes there were words that I didn't,know I was also adding those to my list,as well in clear transparency lingoda is,the sponsor of this video but y'all have,been wanting me to learn a language for,a very long time now and with any,challenge I do you can see that I always,find a platform or a coach to help me,lingardo is referred to me and I've only,heard good things about them even on,this first date I really liked how they,do throw you into the hot water and get,you started speaking day one on day two,in addition to these vocab words I was,adding common phrases and also common,verb conjugations I figured in the same,vein as vocab words appearing over and,over the same common phrases going to,come up over and over again too I was,noticing that many sentences and many,sentence structures were similar or,literally exactly the same also I was,circling words that I felt were more,specific to me for instance I would say,call soccer because I play soccer and,maybe I wouldn't Circle taxi driver,because I'm in Texas right now there's,no taxis I was still memorizing,everything I was just putting more of an,emphasis on the words that were more,specific to me second lesson was a lot,better yet,pronunciation is not easy for somebody,who has very much of a just an American,American accent is that even a thing the,best thing to combat pronunciation,worries is practice on day three I was,practicing speaking on my own best way,to actually practice is through a,concept called immersion,immersion means that hear speak and,learn a language in an authentic,everyday context and experiencing it in,your familiar surroundings immersion is,an effective way to learn a new language,because it basically allows you to be,surrounded by the language and culture,which can help you pick up the language,more naturally and quickly that's why,you see so many people studying abroad,or say that they improve their Spanish,when they actually live in a,Spanish-speaking country you are,literally exposed to the language all,the time whether or not you remember the,name for a bathroom or I'm allergic,whether you like it or not you're forced,to learn quickly because there's,immediate ramifications however for this,week since I'm not able to go to a,Spanish-speaking country that's where,the online classes are so helpful,because they offer a taste of this and,supplementally the next best thing I,could do was literally bombard myself,with all the Spanish content that I,could this included watching Spanish,movies listening Spanish podcasts,reading the Spanish news ah I know that,word,do not return to work in my life,basically exposing me to the language,honestly I feel like I dreamed in,Spanish last night by day four I felt,like I was learning a ton but I was also,getting kind of tired one of the most,common things that I've heard people,struggled with is motivation,hard to stay motivated to continue,something after the beginning high and,your brain hurts because you keep,forgetting the difference between pedo,and P

hi y'all I'm Zoe from Seattle please,like And subscribe I'm a pretty easy,going person but one thing that always,scared me was flying the idea of being,so high above the ground with no control,made me want to vomit I didn't,understand how people could be so casual,about it like it was as simple as riding,a bike being afraid to fly wouldn't be,such a big deal except I really wanted,to travel I dreamed of seeing the world,exploring new cultures and forming,Unforgettable connections with strangers,if that stranger happened to have a cute,smile even better right now that was,only a Daydream but that didn't mean my,life was boring I was the star of our,high school trivia team my teammates,loved me sometimes I didn't even wait,for the question to be over before I hit,the buzzer to answer William Shakespeare,the war of 1812. the Pythagorean theorem,we were competing in the semi-finals and,we were just one correct answer away,from winning the quiz Master read the,question off his guard my teammates all,looked at me I had to to think about it,for a second the opposing Team all,leaned in to confer amongst themselves I,saw them nod and agree about to buzz in,but then I slapped the buzzer first and,got the answer right my teammates and I,cheered we won now we were going to the,finals and one step closer to winning,the championship the next day at school,the teacher sat down with our team to,talk about the finals and go over our,strategy you guys should be proud of,yourselves you did great are you excited,to go to Tokyo oh my gosh Tokyo somehow,I had completely forgotten the finals,were in Japan I thought of all my dreams,of travel and exploration this was so,exciting and then my heart sank wait do,we have to fly of course you're flying,it's almost 5 000 miles away can't we,take a boat do you have any idea how,long that would take come on Zoe I know,how smart you are statistically flying,is the safest way to travel tell that to,Buddy Holly I didn't even really know,who Buddy Holly was to be honest I just,knew he was an old singer my dad liked,who had died in a plane crash my dad was,always playing his records at home and,singing his songs while he did the,dishes on the day we were supposed to,leave I begged my dad to let me stay,home all I could think about was how,horribly wrong things might go honey I,understand you're scared but your team,is depending on you there's nothing to,be afraid of he tried to hide the Buddy,Holly record behind his back but not,before I noticed and just look around,this is one of your dreams I promise,you're going to be so glad that you went,I looked around my room at the travel,collages on my wall and the globe on my,nightstand the book about the Seven,Wonders of the World my dad was right,this was something I'd always imagined I,was gonna do it even if it made me sick,plus it was probably all in my head,anyway people flew every day without,problems maybe it'd even be relaxing to,chill on the plane but the airport,wasn't relaxing at all I was so nervous,that I was shaking in the security line,one of the TSA employees saw how nervous,I was and assumed I must be smuggling,something or some kind of criminal they,made me step out of the line and,searched me it was so embarrassing my,teammates weren't any help at all they,just pointed and laughed shirks we,wouldn't even be going on this trip if,it weren't for me I was the one who got,all the answers right they could at,least have the decency to not make,things harder for me I was so mad that,when we boarded the plane I sat way in,the back away from my teammates anyone,sitting here I was too nervous to find,my voice so I just shook my head no,someone sat down next to me didn't even,bother looking but I could feel his eyes,on me and finally I turned why are you,staring at me you look like you're gonna,pass out thanks I'm aware you're not one,of those people who's scared of flying,are you you know statistically it's,actually the safest way to travel yes I,know why does everyone keep telling me,that probably because they're trying to,make you feel better well it's not,helping you don't have to be rude about,it was this guy freaking kidding me why,did he have to sit next to me when there,were all these other open seats I'd gone,all the way in the back to avoid my,teammates only to have some obnoxious,jerk bother me and make things even,worse I couldn't wait to land I checked,the flight time on my seat back screen,it was only 12 hours more I didn't even,think I'd make it 20 more minutes next,to this person let alone that long I,glared at him but he slapped on a pair,of headphones and ignored me fine by me,I'd rather look out the window anyway,even if he was kind of cute all of a,sudden I saw a lightning bolt go off,right near the plane's Wing the intercom,crackled uh folks this is your captain,speaking we're gonna be experiencing a,bit of turbulence here so please stay,seated while we navigate out this rough,patch my plane was shaking,uncontrollably my
